Melody is adept at connecting with people and organizations around leadership development and organizational needs. She enjoys designing, developing, and delivering programs to achieve desired outcomes. She approaches leader development from the perspectives of leadership, management, and relationship building, skills required of highly effective leaders. As a coach, Melody seeks to ask “the right questions” so that those being coached are thoughtful and reflective in arriving at effective decisions and problem solutions.

The major themes of Melody’s career include working in public policy roles with elected and appointed educational, governmental, and non-profit boards; and developing leaders in a variety of organizations and settings. Her experiences also include university teaching and program leadership, as well as consulting. In 2007, she founded MCO Leadership Associates to serve the needs of schools and school systems, governmental agencies, and non-profits in the areas of leadership development, coaching, strategic planning, and grants development. Reflection on her work has deepened Melody’s commitment to aligning program content with best practices and expectations for leaders; providing learners performance-based opportunities to act on classroom knowledge; and embedding self assessments, 360-degree assessments, simulations, and role-plays in program content.

Melody earned her Doctorate in Educational Leadership, Master’s in Educational Leadership, and Bachelor’s in Management from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She has completed executive development programs at the Center for Creative Leadership. She is co-author of SYI – Strategies for Your Improvement: A Developmental Guide for Educational Leaders Utilizing 360° Feedback.

Melody is a Paper Planes, Inc.® certified facilitator and is qualified to use and interpret the Change Style Indicator®, Denison Organizational Culture Survey®, Discovery Leadership Profile for Educators™, FIRO-B®, Influence Style Indicator®, MBTI®, Strength Deployment Inventory®, and Voices®.

Melody and her husband, Mike, are native High Pointers. They enjoy living life with their miniature dachshund, PeeDee, in the Triad Region of North Carolina. They take full advantage of High Point’s central location and easy access to the mountains and coast, regularly seeking opportunities for quiet reflection and renewal by the ocean. Melody is involved in community outreach work through her local church.
