Board of Managers
Chris serves as a member of the AvoLead LLC Board of Managers. Involved in organizational and leadership development since 1972, Chris shares his wealth of experience in program development and delivery, in the creation of numerous learning simulations and assessment tools and as a successful business owner.
He has held a variety of positions, including associate professor of engineering and industrial management at NC A&T State University and senior program assistant at the Center for Creative Leadership (CCL). He is the president and CEO of Discovery Learning, an organization he founded in 1990.
Chris has delivered programs in leadership development, creativity and innovation, change management and team building to individuals and organizations worldwide. He participated in the development of the highly experiential LeaderLab program at CCL and in the creation of the PressTime®, EdgeWork®, Paper Planes, Inc.® and The Acquisition® simulations. His innovative assessment tools include Change Style Indicator®, Decision Style Profile®, Change Readiness Gauge™, Influence Style Indicator and the Discovery 360º Series.
With an interdisciplinary master’s degree from West Virginia University, Chris also earned a master’s degree in industrial engineering from NC A&T State University. He then received his Ed.D. in adult learning from NC State University with an emphasis in management and organizational development. As a Kellogg Fellow, he had the unique opportunity to explore leadership and innovation from a global perspective.
Chris’ articles have appeared in numerous business and trade publications. His book, Dangerous Opportunity: Making Change Work was published in 2004.
Chris and his wife, Robyn live in Greensboro, NC and have three children and twin grandsons. He enjoys hiking, yoga and his cabin in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina.
